A love letter! (a sad one)

Dear XXX,

Time changes relationships in the strangest of ways. Moment by moment, the ticking of one's heart strikes something deep inside. Like hands moving across the clock's face, a relationship changes even as we try to hold on to the past.

For me, there seems no in between about love. I must either give totally or feel this is an injustice to the other person and myself. Each morning I look in the mirror, and lately, these eyes have not been filled with happiness. It is not me, it is not you. It is what has become of us.

I ask you to let me go, let yourself go, and let us go on life separately. It's not easy for me to do this, but I must. We are who we are, and no one can, nor should we, mold ourselves to fulfill another's needs. Please respect my decision and do not destroy the chance that this could end as a friendship by asking why. We both need some time to regain our lives, so let's not talk for a while.

Love is the greatest of emotions and bears the most sorrow. We were friends first and foremost, and part of who I am today is because of you. I hope you remember us as two individuals who shared love for as long as time allowed.
